Arguably the most important news of the latest months if not years, for the tourists who come to visit the south west of France and think of taking a short trip to Spain as well, is the new TGV (“Train à Grand Vitesse” – high-speed train) line linking Toulouse to Barcelona.
The first train ran on December 15, 2013.
The train journey between these two major European cities takes officially 3 hours and 2 minutes and the ticket prices start at €39.
There is only one train per day that departs from Toulouse’s Matabiau station at 8:24pm and arrives in Barcelona’s Sants station at 11:26pm. The return train starts in Barcelona at 10:24am and arrives in Toulouse at 1:31pm.
The train stops in Carcassonne and Perpignan on the French side and Figueras and Gérone on the Spanish side.
The onboard staff is bilingual French-Spanish but the information displayed on the onboard panels is in French, English, Spanish and Catalan.
