“Martel Gardens” is a remarkable “à l’anglaise” garden situated some 30km north of Toulouse, near the town of Giroussens. The garden that covers a 35,000 square meters surface, first opened in April 1994. Nowadays it welcomes almost 50,000 visitors every year.
The garden, that features an exotic aquatic hothouse, ponds filled with lotus plants and even a “Lotus Temple”, holds each year in the beginning of July the “Lotus Festival” (“Festival du Lotus”). The timing of it corresponds with the peak of lotus flower bloom – lotus being a flower of July!
For the festival the garden was adorned with colorful decorations – called “Wind Gardens” – and featured an exposition of Bonzaï and Ikebana.
