February in Toulouse Means Violet Festival!

Violet Festival on the Capitole Place
Violet Festival on the Capitole Place

Like every year in the beginning of February, Toulouse celebrates its emblematic flower – the violet – with the “Fête de la Violette”.
Unfortunately this year the festival was a more subdued affair, with less stands and not the crowds I have seen in last years.
But smaller does not necessarily mean less interesting and one could still not only see and taste the innumerable cookies, cakes, candies, liquors, chocolates all made with this perfectly edible flower – it seems that the flowers of the Toulouse violet are the most sought after in gastronomy – but also see, smell (,buy) the different violet perfumes, lotions and other cosmetics products.
Maybe the most interesting stand was that that presented violet varieties from all over the world – some of with yellow flowers, some with pink and some with white!
Some images from the 12th edition of the festival – Toulouse, February 2018.
