Sauveterre de Rouergue is liste as one of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" - "Most Beautiful Villages of France".
The village, situated in the heart of Segala region of southwest France, was founded as a "bastide" in 1281 by the King Philip le Hardi.
The town participates in the Hundread Yeas Wars during which becomes an English stronghold between 1362 and 1369.
The town flourished due to its textile manufacturing shops and the commerce with wine until 1628 when the plague killed 800 of its residents or more of the half of its population.
