Château Maucaillou

Visitor's Rating: (0 out of 4/Number of Votes:0)

Château Moucaillou, named this way - maucaillou stands for bad stone - because in ancient times the fields covered in pebbles were not favorable to grains grow, has as written on its web site the motto: "Grand Cru Classé, can not,/ Cru Bourgeois, is refused,/ MAUCAILLOU castle, I am." as devised by Philippe Dourthe the director of the enterprise.
The motto synthesizes the uniqueness of Chateau Maucaillou wine that appeared at the end of the 19th century and therefore could not be included in the famous 1855 ranking as well as the refusal of its stakeholders to being considered a "Cru Bourgeois".
The chateau features a "Wine and Vinery" museum that can be visited any day of the year with the exception of the 1st of January.
