Dear Friends,

french traditionA spring of Lilies of the Valley as a "porte bonheur" to each and everyone of you as is the tradition here in France on the 1st of May - day that marks also the Labour Day or May Day.

Of course the tradition of offering the little white flowers called muguet to the loved ones started in the 16th century during the reign of Charles IX who once being offered a bunch declared that all the ladies of the court should receive also....

This year again, for the 6th time, the "Compagnie des Tours" will take the visitor few centuries back in time and allow him/her to immerse himself/herself, during one weekend, in a medieval atmosphere in the heart of Bruch castrum.
Through the maze of streets of the town, the visitor will live to the rhythm of knights, lords, troubadours and other medieval characters, which will mix the sounds of the horns with that one of swords that cross ...

Each year at the end of May the Academy of the Chocolate Guild of Bayonne organizes the "Chocolate Festival". During 2 days the chocolate makers ("les chocolatiers") of the city expose in front of their shops their chocolate creations that the passers by are invited to taste.
There are also expositions, conferences and other activities all chocolate themed.

The espadrille is the traditional basque foot wear.

Every year in the month of May the Union of the Grands Crus of Bordeaux organizes the Weekend of Grands Crus.
It is a rare opportunity to taste more than 100 wines from all the grand domains of Bordeaux. The weekend includes also vineyards tours, dinners at the estates and even a golf tournament ("Union des Grands Crus Trophy").
Reservation is required.

Bordeaux wine Côte de Bourg appellation celebrates each year in May, since 1993, its wine with an Open House event.
Côte de Bourg appellation spreads on 15 wine communes on the right banks of Dordogne and Gironde at around 35 km north of Bordeaux.
Lots of animations, up to 100 wine chateaux open to visit and wine tasting and a "between the vineyards" car rally open to everybody.

check mark Finger Food Lunch at Patiras
Patiras is an 4.5km long 1km wide island in the Gironde Estuary in front of the town of Pauillac. Every Saturday at 12:00pm from May 3rd to October 25th 2014 the Office de Tourisme of Pauillac organises visits of the island with the taxi-boat "The Silnet".
Once arrived a finger food lunch is served in the dégustaton room or tent depending on the season. A welcome drink and coffee are included and one can buy wine on-site. One can also discover the lighthouse and beautiful panorama.

Lighthouse of Patiras, situated on the north-east tip, has guided ships for over 100 years. Today, acquired and restored by the Conservatoire du Littoral, it became a belvedere spot and offers a magnificent panorama of the Gironde estuary. 4 days per year tours are free, only the boat to access has to be paid. These visits are offered Thursday, May 1, Monday, July 14, Friday, August 15 and Sunday, September 14, 2014.

  • The Pilgrimage of Rosary organized by the Dominican monks on the first week of October.
Other important religious festivities take place annually on the 11th of February - the aniversary of the first Appearance - and on December 8th the day of Immaculate Conception.
