The biggest travel news of December in the south west of France was the opening of the new high-speed train line - called here TGV: Train à Grande Vitesse - between Toulouse and Barcelona.
The line was opened on December 15th.
It takes now only 3 hours and 2 minutes to reach the Catalan capital if you depart from Toulouse.
The line improves the connection to the historic city of Carcassonne that is now twice daily reachable in 41 minutes - a midday TGV Toulouse-Carcassonne already exists - and links directly for the first time Toulouse to Perpignan - the capital city of the Pyrenees Orientales department - in a trip that lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes.
On a totally different topic it was nice to learn that the Christmas tree of "Grand Hotel de Bordeaux and Spa" was declared by CNN one of the world's most spectacular. The tree is decorated in a baroque style with opera costumes, lace and crystals.
