Little Train of Artouste

Orthez Festival

Orthez is the ancient capital of Béarn. Each year its mixed - French,Spanish, Basque, Béarnais - heritage is celebrated during the Orthez Festival (Féria d'Orthez).
The festivities stretch over 5 days each year at the end of July and include bullfight races, abrivado (the "guiding" of bulls by men on horses), sporting events like fishing competition, equestrian competitions, bowling and many street music concerts.

Junte de Roncal

"Junte de Roncal" or "Le tribute des trois vaches" which means "The tribute of the three cows" is celebrated each year since...1375 in the Pierre-Saint-Martin pass at 1760 meters (5774 ft) altitude on July 13th.
Each year the mayors of six villages of Bearn wearing blue-white-red sashes meet with the representatives of ten communities from Navarre dressed in their black traditional outfits and solemnly re-sign a peace treaty while the French give the Spaniards three cows.
The legend goes that the treaty was signed after a long dispute for a spring between two - one French and one Spanish - shepherds.
Each year the event is attended by hundreds of tourists.
The Pierre-Saint-Martin is situated some 74 km (46 mi) south of Pau.

Little Churches' Festival

This festival dedicated to the sacred heritage of the heart of the Pyrenees Mountains includes classical music concerts, opera and text readings. It is a unique opportunity to discover the little Romanesque and Baroque gems of the Pyrenees valleys.
It takes place every year in the months of July and August.
This year the first concert takes place on Friday 21st of July 2017 in VIELLE-AURE at Saint-Barthélémy church.

Medieval Festival of Montaner

Montaner, is a little town 41 km (25.5 mi) East of Pau, and with its Gaston Fébus fort and its painted church a major tourist site of Aquitaine ("Site majeur d'Aquitaine").
The medieval festival that takes place here since 2002, one whole weekend in July, features medieval musical concerts, medieval cuisine workshops, staged sword fights, tournaments, introduction to medieval dances and other animations that make the delight of the Middle Age history lover.

Medieval Day at Sauveterre-de-Béarn

Visit Jurançon Wine Cave

Jurançon is the emblematic wine of Bearn (even Henri IV at his birth was made to swallow few drops of Jurançon as it was the custom in Bearn at the time!).
The caves of the Jurancon, with its ageing, assembling and wine bottling facilities, are open for visiting (on appointment) and tasting.

Jurançon Wine House

The "Jurançon Wine House" offers the possibility of tasting of 150 different wines from the Jurançon denomination (AOC Juraçon) as well as Madiran, Irouléguy and other South West wines.
The House organizes all year round wine tasting classes and a variety of events centered around the wine.
The Jurançon Wine House is situated in the town of Lacommand that includes also a Knights Hospitallers Commandery built in the beginning of the 12th century.
