"Arsenal Maritime" 350 Year Anniversary

"Arsenal Maritime" is a museum complex dedicated to and located on the site of the former historic Rochefort ship yard. The Arsenal built during the reign of Louis XIV celebrates this year its 350th anniversary.
The festivities include 17th and 18th century reenactments.
Date: August 26th to 28th 2016
Rochefort is situated some 36 km (22 mi) south of La Rochelle on the Charente River estuary.

Brouage by Night

La Rochelle Aquarium

The aquarium of La Rochelle, located in the heart of the city, is one of Europe's largest private aquariums. Spread on a surface of 8,445 m2 (or more than 90,000ft2) , it is the home of more than 12,000 animals of 600 different species that live in more than 3 million liters of sea water.
Each year the aquarium welcomes more than 800,000 visitors, making it the most visited aquarium in France.

Mussel Farmers' Fest

The fest takes place in Châtelaillon-Plage some 16 km south of La Rochelle, on the Atlantic coast.
It features street music and dances, farmers' market, the preparation of a gigantic "éclade" - a gastronomic speciality of the region - make from 100 kg of mussels.

"Musique en Ré" Classical Music Festival

Visit the Ile de Ré sea urchin hatchery

Medieval Festival at Crazannes Castle

Listed as a "Historical Monument", the Castle of Crazannes was built in the fourteenth century on the site of an ancient fort. His nickname "Castle of Puss in Boots" comes from its seventeenth century owner, Jules Gouffier, Earl of Caravaz, a remarkable character who inspired Charles Perrault to create Marquis of Carabas, Master of Puss in Boots in his celebrated tale.
The medieval festival takes place on the 5th and 6th of August 2017.
